In recent decades, natural hazards have placed increased focus on the resilience of coastal communities and their ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions. Many communities are anticipating for these impacts to increase in future years as we continue to experience the effects of sea level rise, increased development and land conversion, land subsidence, changes in climate patterns, and deteriorating water quality conditions, among others. These concerns have reached the Charleston area, sparking conversions about the resilience of our communities and the ability to adapt to natural hazards in the future. M. Lee Bundrick, MS, MPA is the Senior Ecological Health & Conservation Coordinator for the Kiawah Conservancy and an Adjunct Professor for the Environmental and Sustainability Studies Graduate Program at the College of Charleston. In this presentation, Lee will provide an overview of topics surrounding community resilience in the Charleston area and recent efforts to increase our capacity to adapt to changing conditions through land conservation and the implementation of nature-based strategies
