The History of Northern Renaissance Art (Monday, April 8th- April 29th at 11:00am in Blackmer Hall) This 4-week course will introduce students to the history of Northern Renaissance art. Students will learn about Flemish, Dutch, and German artists who worked between 1400-1600. Students will gain an understanding of the principles and techniques employed by these artists; visual comparisons will be made with contemporaneous Italian Renaissance art. The Charles Towne Flute Quartet will present “DANCE!" at 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 4, 2024. Beginning with Handel’s “Hornpipe,” from Water Music Suite, the group will perform a variety dance music, ending with Bernstein’s “Mambo” from West Side Story.  The concert will include works by Strauss, Brahms, Borodin, Tchaikovsky, and Joplin, among others.   2024 marks the Quartet's twelfth year as a performing ensemble in Charleston.  The group plays a wide range of works from Tallis to Bach to Bernstein to Beatles, and has performed at a variety of venues including the North Charleston Arts Festival, children’s concerts at Grace Cathedral's Little School, as well as services for many area churches.   Quartet members Elaine Oakley Caine, Lexie Merritt, Carley Lewis, and Richard Show.

Join Henry Fair, an  American photographer, environmental activist, and co-founder of the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem, New York, in Blackmer Hall at 3:00 pm on May 7.  Born in Charleston, Fair currently lives in New York City.  With his photos, Fair has called attention to environmental and political problems in different regions of the world. “Spring is coming with all that it means.  It's a time of reawakening and freshness and being outside.  But it is coming earlier, and that has meaning too.  Charleston and the low country will be uniquely impacted by the (climate) changes that are coming, and it will probably be sooner than we think.  How do we prepare, and what should we do?” These are the essential questions at the heart of Henry Fair's photography.  The South Carolina coast is his abiding love.
